I wanted to explore what silence means when it’s not just the absence of sound, but a survival tool. Growing up in the South, silence often carried weight; it was respect, resistance, and ritual all at once. With The Silent Crown, I aimed to capture the intricate ways in which beauty, control, and faith intertwine. It’s about identity, restraint, and the quiet storms that shape who we become.

Hairstylists have always fascinated me as some of the strongest figures in our communities. They wear many hats for their clients: confidant, healer, counselor, artist. Behind the chair, they shape more than crowns of hair; they shape how people see themselves. That quiet resilience, often unacknowledged, inspired me to imagine what happens when a stylist’s everyday strength collides with a hidden world of secrecy and survival.

At the same time, my love of cinema shaped this vision. I’ve long been inspired by The Matrix, The Terminator, Eve’s Bayou, and the television series Killing Eve; these are just a few of the stories that merge philosophy with spectacle, using transformation as their core. What I admire most about these works is their balance: immersive world-building anchored in deeply personal stakes, where characters must redefine themselves to survive.

With The Silent Crown, I channel that same spirit into a Southern Gothic world. Here, the battles are quieter, more psychological, but no less transformative, where silence itself becomes a language, and survival demands not just strength, but reinvention.
